This electronic form may be used by researchers who wish to pursue research at School In The Park. While SITP staff welcome outside researchers, it is essential that the research generally support the overall program goals and that the methodologies used not hinder or interfere with ongoing program operations. Further, standard human subject protection protocol must be observed. To learn more about SITP, please visit the website at http://schoolinthepark.net/ .
Prior to any investigation, the researcher/s must submit the completed research proposal listed form below. This completed proposal form must be submitted to the SITP Director in advance of any project initiation. Each proposal will be reviewed by the SITP Administrative Team in partnership with the Office of Evaluation and Analytic Studies in the City Heights Educational Collaborative and/or San Diego State University on the last calendar work day of each month.
Research candidates will be notified within 10 days of proposal review whether or not the proposed research project has been accepted, returned for revisions, or denied.
If approved, the researcher(s) will have one year in which to complete their study unless stated otherwise in the proposal. If the project is incomplete in the allowed timeframe, the researcher(s) is responsible for submitting a proposal renewal. Also, if, at any time during the investigation, a procedure is altered (e.g., change to interview protocol, addition of subjects, or change to any condition of the proposal), the researcher(s) is responsible to submit a proposal renewal.
Research proposals will be evaluated using the following criteria:
- Value to SITP students and potential to yield valuable information for continual improvement of the unique SITP environment.
- Integration of research aims and methodologies and how potential problem areas are acknowledged and addressed
- Innovation of the research lens in concept, approach, and/or method
- Attributes of the investigator/s, including preparation and previous research experience
- Consideration of the research environment, taking advantage of unique features of SITP
- Implications for broader significance and how knowledge will be advanced
