About Our Lesson Plans

The lesson plans were developed by teachers at Rosa Parks Elementary who participated in technology training and information literacy workshops funded by AB1339 during Spring, 2003. Fourth and fifth grade teachers collaborated with the librarian and technology coordinator to design grade level lesson plan templates with research based assessment rubrics. Integrating technology, teachers consider their students, their skills, and the kind of access they have in the classroom. The ratio of students to computers changes with the use of wireless laptops that can be checked out for the day. Collaborating with the librarian, teachers can schedule time in the library media center to extend classroom research capabilities and use valuable resources selected and collected for their grade level project.

Teachers used technology to generate graphic organizers, Venn diagrams, K.W.L. charts, and interdisciplinary concept webs to plan lessons. Computers were used to create worksheets, templates, activities and slide shows. For example, ClarisWorks has an "Assistant and Stationary" category that teachers used to create the lesson plan and slide show templates, which have been customized and saved for future usage. Lesson plans require students to use a variety of media to research. Worksheets and activities containing questions and hyperlinks to Internet resources guide students to appropriate sites. Slide shows are used to introduce or review a topic. Some student research project templates are slide shows as well. In these lesson plans, the teacher creates a slide show template and specifies the type of information that needs to be entered on each slide. The students input the information and include pictures where appropriate. Other projects include book reports, newspapers, and posters. All student work is saved to their folder on the student server which can be accessed anywhere on campus.
