The San Diego Women's Foundation attended a "Garden Party" at Rosa Parks Elementary on June 22, 2007. Members of the Women's Foundation were greeted in the library for a quick overview of the Rosa Parks School Community Garden. In 2002-03, the garden received a $30,000 grant from the Women's Foundation to use as startup funds for fencing, curriculum supplies, irrigation, garden shed, and
tools. Five years later, students and staff welcomed the members back and treated them to a "snapshot" of then and now in the garden. Before the garden tour, first grade students shared their garden books they created by reading to a member "buddy", sharing their story about their garden vegetable. Members were invited to join a second grade class in the garden and enjoy sun tea and healthy snacks while they participated in "the Hamburger Plant" lesson. Enjoy photos from the garden visit on this page. |
