Our Business and Community Partners
Partners in Education
Established in 1982, the district's Partnerships in Education Program (PIE) forms collaborative arrangements between schools and organizations including businesses, government agencies and military commands, as well as service, educational and cultural community organizations. Partnerships focus on human resources rather than the donation of funds.
Hoover High School Partners in Education:
Examples of extended opportunities our Partners in Business provide for Hoover High students:
- Provide job shadowing opportunities for students
- Providing staff volunteers to serve as panelists for Senior Exhibits held in Jan and May
- Provide staff to participate as volunteers in Mock Interviews Fall and Winter
- Providing staff members to participate as mentors and speakers who can address issues of cultural diversity, gender bias, sexual harassment and age diversity.
- Providing internship opportunities for Academy of Information Technology students. The internship will earn students a personal computer for participation in the internship.
- Providing internship opportunities for Visual and Performing Arts Academy students
- Developing career awareness projects that will prepare students for the future work force.
- Providing Hoover students with current transfer information by assigning specific SDCC staff to work with students, faculty and parent groups.
- Providing a tutoring center for students in basic subjects such as reading and math.
- Arranging job shadowing opportunities which can include completing job applications and resumes to promote excellence in career planning.
Monroe Clark Middle Partners in Education:
Examples of extended opportunities our Partners in Business provide for Monroe Clark students:
- Supporting literacy by developing a tutoring center for students in basic subjects such as reading and math.
- Supporting student recognition by providing wards, certificates and refreshments.
- Supporting school/classroom activities and events as personnel are available and time permits.
- Supporting the Writer's Workshop hosted by SDSU by providing transportation and small rewards for participating students.
- Creating business/consumer awareness opportunities for students through field trips.
- Providing a guest chef to make an appearance in the Extended Day Center (XDC) cooking class.
- Creating business/consumer awareness opportunities for students through field trips and speakers in the classroom.
- Providing a chef to demonstrate cooking skills and participate in extracurricular extended day activities and consumer/family science classes.
- Tutoring students in reading, math, and science.
Rosa Parks Elementary Partners in Education:
Examples of extended opportunities our Partners in Business provide for Rosa Parks students:
- Providing schoolwide staff development through the Masters Program.
- Providing personnel with Rolling readers trained to read with selected students one hour each week.
- Supporting student recognition by providing an award for perfect attendance.
- Providing career awareness opportunities in art-related fields through speakers in the classroom, students follow up with reflection essays and/or letters of appreciation.
- Support literacy by providing personnel to volunteer as tutors, guest readers and or for classroom read alouds.
- Sponsoring the parent room through donations of food, equipment and supplies.
- Providing judges for writing / art contests as well as for student portfolios and exhibitions.
- Providing guest speakers in the classroom on such topics as gangs, narcotics, curfew, and "A Day in the Life of a Police Officer".
