California Healthy Kids Survey

The California Healthy Kids Survey will be administered in all CHEC schools in the Spring of 2009. Each school is in the process of obtaining parent permissions this Fall. As a sample, English and Spanish versions of the middle school survey are included here. If you have any questions about the survey please contact: Dr. Michael Corke through the CHEC.

The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is an anonymous, confidential student and school staff report of attitudes, health risk behaviors, and protective factors. The survey gathers information on behaviors such as physical activity and nutritional habits; alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use; school safety; and environmental and individual strengths.

ELAC English Learner Advisory Committee


Schools which have 21 or more English as a Second Language (ESL) students also have an English Learner Advisory Committee. It serves as the advisory body to the school on four key issues:

  1. The school plan for English learners
  2. Needs assessment
  3. Administration of the language census
  4. Efforts to make parents aware of the importance of attendance

 

California Reading List
The California Reading List assists parents and students in selecting books written at a level of difficulty that corresponds with the student's score on the English-Language Arts Standards portion of the STAR testing program.
