SDSU is one of many options that students of the Collaborative have. City College, Mesa, Grossmont or one of the many other local community colleges are excellent options to continue education.

Trade or technical schools are a great alternative to college, they offer training in specific professions from high tech computer to cabinetmaking and cosmetology to commercial art.

 

 

The City Heights Educational Collaborative is a K-12 coordinated

public education partnership with the goal of achieving excellent educational outcomes for inner city children.

 

The mission of the Collaborative is to develop essential 21st Century knowledge and life skills in all students.

  1. Intellectually, students need to develop proficiency in:
    • Academic and Career technical content
    • Oral and written communication
    • Critical thinking - problem solving
    • Creativity and innovation
    • Information technology
  2. Personally, students need to develop proficiency in:
    • Interpersonal skills
    • Self-management skills
  3. Socially, students need to develop proficiency in:
    • Understanding and valuing diversity
    • Ethics and social responsibility

 

The characteristics of the Collaborative are:

  • Highly qualified teachers and administrators and sufficient numbers of teachers and administrators;
  • Appropriately sized classrooms, number of students;
  • Clean, safe and well maintained facilities;
  • Enriched educational experiences outside the classroom;
  • Enhanced support from San Diego State University;
  • Strong social and healthcare support systems;
  • Strong commitment to counseling and mentoring;
  • Emphasis on parent participation
